Who among us would turn their nose up at the chance the see how their audience interacts with their creations? Effective communication should always be bidirectional and having information about the behavior of your audience in your creations is invaluable. At Genially, we want you to be able to take full advantage of this information. You know what they say; information is power.
Take a quick look at this page to find out if your plan includes this feature.
In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to see how your audience is interacting with your geniallys.

How to activate user tracking
To be able to collect information about the behavior of your audience in any of your creations, you must first publish your genially and then activate this option by following these simple steps.
- Go to your Panel and hover your mouse over the genially in question.
- Click on Analytics.
- Then, click on the Tracking option.
- Click on the Activate tracking button. All set! Starting now, all this information about your creation will be recorded.
Remember that this option is disabled by default and that you have to enable it in each genially individually, following the steps above to start recording the information. You can also activate the tracking option when you publish your genially.
Considerations for your audience
In order for you to be able to identify each person viewing your creation, they will each need to include a username or alias at the beginning. Our recommendation is that your audience should always enter the same username or alias to access a particular genially. That way, data about the same user will be collected and you will have an overall view of the behavior of each person in each of your creations.
To make it easier, the browser keeps the same username or alias, so the tracking data will continue to be associated with that username or alias every time they view your creation from the same browser.
What information will I receive?
Good question! Once the user tracking option is activated, you'll start receiving information within Genially, with no need to integrate an external tool. Good news, right?
The information is updated at the speed of light, and you can filter by date for more comprehensive tracking. Easier than the zero times table.
This is the data you’ll get on your audience:
Note: The data is linked to the username with which each person is identified, so it will be updated correctly as long as the same user name or alias is always entered when viewing your creation.
- User: Each person that views your creation will be asked to enter an alias or username (max. 20 characters). That way you can easily identify who’s accessed it and observe their behavior.
- Total accesses: This is the number of times this person has accessed your genially.
- Total duration: This is the total time that this user has spent in your genially across all their visits.
- Pages viewed: This is the number and percentage of pages viewed in the genially.
- Date of first access: This shows the date that the user first accessed your genially.
Have you included any interactive questions in your creation? If the answer is a resounding 'yes', you will be able to see the answers from your audience in this section. Check the Answers box to filter and display only the results to the questions you have included.
Download the information
You can download the data related to your audience tracking (page views, total duration, etc.) in CSV format. This option can be very useful for detailed analysis of user interaction and for creating customized reports.
Here’s how to do it step by step:
- Go to your Panel and hover your mouse over the genially.
- Click on the 3 dots that appear.
- Click on Analytics.
- Then, select Tracking.
- Set the date range. The metrics collected for these dates will be displayed. Note: The default time span is between the day the genially was created and the current date. Click on the Download CSV button.
All set! Quick and easy as pie!
